Artist Statement

My inspiration comes from my surroundings, a rock on the side of the road,
dead trees in swamp, a person begging for food. I'm never without a sketchbook to hand so I am constantly drawing and sometimes the drawings are left in the sketchbook and other times they develop into more in-depth ideas and detailed images.

I didn't set out to be an artist with a style, one that can be judged by a repeated look. I want to explore everything.
My moods create my art. You won’t hear deep profound words come from me about my art. It is as you see it.

My paintings tends to focus on the environment, the evolution of man and his material wealth, the struggles people are confronted with each day.
My Sculptures are more about the space then take from their surroundings.

None of it was intentional - it all developed and evolved over time. People always ask for my artist statement so I needed to do one but I've never liked to explain a certain piece of work - if you've made a picture and that's how you wanted it to be - hopefully it can speak for itself and whatever it says to the viewer - it's the right message because there isn't a wrong and a right message. Each person takes something a little different from the same piece and I'm happy with that.

Influences
My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel and experience, but I've always loved painted works by Van Gogh, Andrew Wyeth, Max Ernst and Anselm Kiefer. I love sculpture’s by Bruce Besley,, Alexander Liberman and Albert Paley, Justin Perlman, Marcia Spivak.

I doubt very much you will come upon a piece of art and say “That is a Folz” because life is to short to be repetitive.

(born September 24, 1957, Wausau, WI
Left WI in the late 70’s to study art in NYC. BFA at FIT, NYC.
Attended Arts Students League, NYC through out the 80’s

Worked and studied Painting with Ertugrul Ates (master painter from Turkey) in the 80’s
Working with Ates he developed a Humanist Impression style.
Sold paintings through Green Street Gallery in the 80’s and 90’s.

Worked as a designer through the 80’s and most of the 90’s Donald Deskey Associates, Cosmair L’Oreal, Michael Peters Group, Liz Claiborne, Inc. Ethan Allen, Inc. and now Sr. Creative Director at Powers Fasteners, Inc.

Relocated to Connecticut in the late 90’s to raise his children.

Began sculpting under the direction of David Boyajian in 2009 at the Connecticut based Sculpture Barn.
